Earnings analysis agent: predicting earnings surprises
Earnings reports are the most powerful catalysts in the stock market. A single earnings surprise can move a stock 10%, 20%, or more in minutes. Our Earnings Analysis Agent helps you prepare for these events by analyzing the full earnings landscape.
What the earnings analysis agent does
Before an earnings report, the agent compiles analyst consensus estimates for earnings per share (EPS) and revenue. It tracks how these estimates have changed over the past 30, 60, and 90 days. Rising estimates signal improving expectations. Falling estimates signal deteriorating expectations. The direction of estimate revisions is often a better predictor of post-earnings stock movement than the actual beat-or-miss versus consensus.
The agent also analyzes the company’s earnings surprise history — its track record of beating or missing estimates over the past 8+ quarters. Companies that consistently beat estimates by a wide margin often continue to do so. Companies with a history of negative surprises are higher risk heading into earnings.
Guidance and whisper numbers
Official analyst estimates are only part of the picture. The agent evaluates previous management guidance and whether the company tends to guide conservatively (setting beatable targets) or aggressively. It also factors in “whisper numbers” — the unofficial expectations that often exceed published estimates. Beating the whisper number matters more than beating the consensus in terms of post-earnings stock movement.
What you get in your report
The Earnings Analysis section includes EPS and revenue consensus estimates, estimate revision trends (30/60/90 days), historical earnings surprise track record, guidance analysis and management credibility assessment, implied post-earnings move from options pricing, and an earnings risk rating from High Risk to Low Risk.
